Help! How to Support Someone Struggling With their Mental Health.
The lifetime prevalence of living with a mental health condition is 50%. That means that, at some point in time, everyone will know someone struggling with their mental health. It can be difficult to know what to say or how to provide proper support. In this session, we will work with students and show them what to say and what actions to take. Students will leave this workshop knowing how to support their friends and what appropriate interventions look like.
Resilience for Everyday Living and Traumatic Events
Resilience is our ability to adapt when things don't go as planned. It is our ability to bounce back in the face of adversity, trauma, family and relationship stress, serious health problems, or workplace and school stressors. Resilience is a strategy that can be learned. In this session, we will explore the factors that contribute to resilience and practical coping strategies for everyday life and more traumatic experiences.
Language and Stigma Surrounding Mental Health
Language matters. The words we choose and the meanings attached to them have a powerful effect on how we view mental health and the people who live with mental health conditions. In this interactive session, you will learn about the language that can alienate people, sensationalize mental health, and create barriers to treatment. You will leave the workshop learning about preferred language and tools to intervene when confronted with stigma around mental health.
