No Shame On U is delighted to host an On The Table 2018 dinner. Response will lead a discussion on what contributes to negative body image in teens and adults. We will discuss self-esteem, family and peer influences, as well as the role of media, advertisements, and Photoshop. Through an interactive process using personal reflection, pictures, videos, and more we will open up a safe environment to reflect on body image and the media’s portrayal of idealized bodies. Finally, we will discuss action steps for building self-confidence and educating others.
About Response: Response is a safe, welcoming space where teens receive support to deal with life's challenges, meet new friends, and above all, feel free to be themselves. http://www.jcfs.org/response
About On The Table: The Chicago Community Trust’s On the Table is an annual forum designed to take people places – to offices, schools, libraries, restaurants and other spaces where they meet others, share ideas and explore ways to improve our region. The results are exciting new relationships, elevated civic conversations and genuine pathways toward collaborative action – outcomes that make our communities more connected, resilient and resourceful. http://onthetable.com
Each year, The Kennedy Forum invites you to join us in hosting a conversation during On The Table to bring attention to mental health and combat stigma. Studies show the best way to eliminate stigma is to talk about experiences face-to-face. In a single day, our community makes a huge impact by engaging thousands of people on a topic that needs to be discussed.
About Tailgators: Chicago TailGators provides catering services to the Chicagoland area from our state-of-the-art, fully equipped, on site commercial kitchen facility, certified KOSHER thru the CRC. Vegetarian options will be available.
