Breast Cancer, Ultrasound and Illinois Law Mandating Payment
What you need to know about mammograms and cancers in women with dense breast tissue.
-Risk factors are high for African American women, Eastern European Jewish women and women with a family history of cancer.
-Illinois law mandates that insurance companies cover ultrasounds ordered for women with dense breast tissue. Know your rights if you are denied coverage.
-Hear survivor Linda Forman talk about getting years of “normal” mammogram reports and, thankfully, getting an Automated Breast Ultrasound System (known as ABUS ultrasound) that caught an aggressive cancer at a very early stage. The cancer could not be felt and did not show up on the mammogram.
-State Representative Laura Fine, Chair of the House Health Insurance Committee, will provide information on women getting the coverage they deserve and are entitled to by law.
Depression and Outreach Programs
-Learn from Michael Fine’s story of dealing with depression after a traumatic accident and living with chronic pain.
He will discuss his journey through deep depression, how he found his way out of it, and solutions to dealing with chronic pain.
-Hear from Miriam Ament, Founder and President of No Shame on U. No Shame on U is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating the stigma associated with mental health conditions and connecting with community outreach programs, classes, workshops and resources to help individuals and families in need.
